The Centre - Livingstone

In October last year, we were proud to be the supplier of recyclable bags to the brand new ‘Centre’ at Almondvale Shopping Centre in Livingstone.

The bags were given out free to all visitors to the ultra-modern brand new attraction. Even a Paris Hilton look-a-like managed to fool the shoppers carrying one of our stylish ‘The Centre’ bags.

The Centre management company designed two different styles of bags so make sure you ‘bag’ yourself one when on your next visit!

Banchory Campaign

Earlier on this year, Banchory, a gorgeous small town in Aberdeenshire, started their own campaign to rid their town of plastic bags.
Heading the committee was Christina Brown, who put in so much time and effort into getting this campaign into gear and boy did she! You can read more about it in our blog.

Here is a photo of them during their Annual Banchory Day when they gave away their very own recyclable Banchory foldable shopping bag to all local residents.

Apart from the weather just about blowing their tent away, the day and the bags were a huge success. Well done Christina and Banchory for putting yourselves on the map of ‘plastic bag free towns’.

Community Food Co-operative Programme in Wales supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Rural Regeneration Unit

xmas bag "In April 2004 a two-year pilot scheme to develop community food co-operatives in North and Southeast Wales commenced. The key focus of the pilot was to supply, from locally produced sources as far as possible, quality affordable fruit and vegetables to disadvantaged communities through the development of sustainable local food distribution networks. A grant from the Inequalities in Health Fund funded two Community Food Development Officers to develop a minimum of 26 sustainable food co-operatives. The pilot focused on socially disadvantaged communities. The project aimed to develop and introduce sustainable practices to improve health through collaborative action, and direct efforts at a local level linking farmers to consumers. A total of 77 food co-operatives were set up in the two-year period."

"The pilot has been evaluated by Cardiff Institute of Society, Health and Ethics and it concluded that most people buying from the co-ops were eating more fruit and vegetables. Other benefits highlighted included changes to the quality of social lives and connections to other people, perceived improvements to health and understanding of health related issues. Changes in attitudes to fruit and vegetables were reported for other beneficiaries: in families, in schools and in the community as a whole."

"In April 2006 funding was awarded to the Rural regeneration Unit for an additional two years to support, develop and extend the programme and to further develop the supply of Welsh grown horticultural produce into the food co-operatives. The Community Food Co-operative programme has gone from strength to strength and recently won a World Health Organisation award for counteracting obesity for activities in promoting fruit and vegetables, with a focus on vulnerable consumers. The programme was selected from 202 applications from 35 countries.

"Approximately 145 Community Food Co-operatives have been opened to date under this programme."

Well – here we are with some of the hundreds of children that came on the preview day.  Bagman and Mrs Bagman (well you didn’t think that I was going to say Baglady did you?? ) A great couple of days in the centre of Glasgow – Glaswegians are as always most hospitable and friendly.  Congratulations to Biggart Baillie for their organisation; all proceeds went to the Prince’s Trust.   Thanks to Ferguson Imaging for the pics.

A good friend, Frank Webber, from Jeddah days is a cartoonist in his spare time (what spare time – he is retired) – we have recently completed a cook book together – recipes given with ingredients; method of cooking is in verse and there are cartoons on every page – so that makes it a sort of cookery poetry book with laughter – no wonder the publishers of this country could not make out what to do with it – and would not touch it with a barge pole – let along a bit printing ink - (shame on them – I say!!) – so we did it ourselves – way to go

So I asked Frank to come up with a cartoon for Go Green Bags

This pic of Jodie was taken in the spring when Jodie  and I were exploring London Farmer’s Markets – it was a lovely day – sunny and some really fantastic produce on the stalls.  This market is in Bethnal Green and you should see some of the really wonderful fruits and vegetables.

Any market that wishes to have a bag fabricated for their traders please contact us – we have all sorts of schemes whereby you can go thin plastic bag free – offer your traders an alternative to the ultra thin polyethylene supermarket style plastic bags.  We can provide a basic bag with your overall logo on the side that you then can provide to your traders.  Come you traders contact me – as many other associations have in the past and arrange  for your market to go bag-free.

Yours truly; John the Bagman – at the
Perth Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition –
our first exhibition.

At another FSB exhibition – I hope to do far more
Exhibitions in the new year.

So here we are - the kids of 3rd grade with the Go Green Bags (Be Fantastic - Lose Plastic logos) in the sunshine of Hawaii. They want to help getting Hawaii get further into recycling and persuading the citizens of the Islands to be more caring with the planet. We at Go Green Bags are very proud of the kids and their Teacher - Ms Denise Russell, who has worked so hard to make this happen. Well done all of you.

Falko Konditormeister - on Edinburgh Farmer's Market on an autumn morning. Note that the bags look warm and inviting - but not as warm and good as the bread!

Outside of Patterson's Fruit Fayre in Cupar - East Fife.

A wonderful display of bags with some fruit and flowers too
